E911 Compliance & Your Safety
At Current-Tel, your safety is extremely important to us. When someone dials 911, the call needs to go through instantly—and emergency responders need to know exactly where to go. That’s why we follow all federal E911 regulations designed to protect lives in emergency situations. We also partner with you, our customer, to make sure your phone system is set up correctly so help can find you—whether you're at the main office, a remote location, or anywhere in between.

What You Need to Know About E911
How does Current-Tel comply with these laws?
We make sure you can dial 911 directly—no need to dial a prefix. We also register a unique E911 location for every floor, suite, or room in your organization and keep that info up to date. Plus, we ask you to name a designated contact who’ll get an alert anytime someone calls 911 from your system.
Who do these laws apply to?
These laws apply to any business or organization using a multi-line phone system, and they hold both service providers and end users accountable.
What does RAY BAUM's Act require?
Every 911 call must include a “dispatchable location”, which means more than just a street address. It includes details such as floor, suite, room number, or other identifying info that helps first responders locate the caller quickly.
What is E911?
Enhanced 911 (E911) is a system that automatically provides emergency services with the caller's phone number and registered location when dialing 911. This is especially critical in commercial phone systems where the physical phone may not clearly indicate the caller’s location.
What does Kari's Law require?
Users must be able to dial 911 directly without needing to dial a prefix (like 9) to get an outside line. Additionally, the system must send an alert (e.g., email or on-screen pop-up) to a designated contact within the organization when a 911 call is placed.
What laws regulate E911?
Two key federal laws: one (Kari's Law) ensures you can dial 911 directly, and the other (RAY BAUM Act) makes sure your exact location is shared with emergency responders. Together, they help save lives by making emergency calls faster and more accurate.

What We Need From You
To ensure your phone system is compliant and that emergency responders can find you quickly, we need the following information from you:
- Physical address of each location using the phone system
- Floor, suite, or room number associated with each phone or user
- Name and phone number of a designated on-site emergency contact (for Kari’s Law alerts)
- Any remote workers or mobile extensions, with current physical locations
For convenience, you can fill out our secure E911 form right here on this page—it’s the quickest way to get us the info we need. Prefer email? No problem—just send the required details to us at [email protected], and we’ll take it from there.
